 Our focus in new buildings is on the use of natural, traditional and sustainable materials to produce environment friendly buildings. We are members of the association for environment conscious builders (aecb). We have experience in most common building materials, and a few less common such as mass cob, cellulose insulation, in-situ concrete and timber frames in oak or softwood. While most of our buildings follow traditional and vernacular forms we relish the occasional opportunity to design contemporary buildings including earth-sheltered and Modernist structures. We have extensive experience of the negotiations required with the planning authorities to enable the construction of new buildings in sensitive locations in either urban or rural locations. In all our projects we aim to improve thermal efficiency and exercise the greatest care in selection of materials with the lowest possible embodied energy and avoiding those with any possible impact on the health of building users and contractors. In new buildings we pursue the very best standards in these respects using solar effects, building mass and orientation to produce the most energy saving designs. |
