This house was constructed on the remains of a derelict single-storey stock shed in the grounds of a listed 15th century farmhouse.

The new building takes its cue from the old both in the construction of the shell, in the green-oak framed roof, and in its form. The internal arrangement is a modern interpretation of the traditional longhouse with cellular spaces at either end and an insertion of additional rooms into the central hall space.

Materials are natural throughout and locally sourced wherever possible, but used to produce an interior with a clean Modern aesthetic. Different materials have been used to underline the spatial and structural logic of the building. In-situ concrete defines the service and circulation routes and makes the necessary apertures in the existing stone walls, whilst lighter materials are used for the first floor insertions.

The building incorporates underfloor heating and high levels of insulation to the roof and north facing walls whilst use is made of the southerly orientation for passive solar gain.
